macro monday;
It’s been a long time coming!
Today, finally, my 105mm micro nikkor arrived from Sydney. My first thoughts when I carefully took it out of the box ‘it’s much heavier than I anticipated’ (lol).
These are my test photographs:

Aperture:f/3.2 / Exposure time:1/30 sec / ISO speed:2200 / Focal length:105mm / Lens:Nikkor 105mm Micro AF-S VR IF-ED

Aperture:f/5 / Exposure time:1/100 sec / ISO speed:200 / Focal length:105mm / Lens:Nikkor 105mm Micro AF-S VR IF-ED

Aperture:f/4 / Exposure time:1/60 sec / ISO speed:200 / Focal length:105mm / Lens:Nikkor 105mm Micro AF-S VR IF-ED

Aperture:f/4.5 / Exposure time:1/60 sec / ISO speed:200 / Focal length:105mm / Lens:Nikkor 105mm Micro AF-S VR IF-ED

Aperture:f/4.2 / Exposure time:1/60 sec / ISO speed:200 / Focal length:105mm / Lens:Nikkor 105mm Micro AF-S VR IF-ED

Aperture:f/3 / Exposure time:1/60 sec / ISO speed:200 / Focal length:105mm / Lens:Nikkor 105mm Micro AF-S VR IF-ED

Aperture:f/11 / Exposure time:1/500 sec / ISO speed:200 / Focal length:105mm / Lens:Nikkor 105mm Micro AF-S VR IF-ED
My cat is constantly bullied by the cat that lives across the road; she’s a bitch to my boy, comes into our backyard & attacks him! This is the fourth time this year I’ve had him off to the vet & the fourth time I’ve come home with antibiotics & pain killer’s for my cat. So, when they return from their holiday I will be marching over there & telling them to keep their cat off my property, or pay the –fucking- vet bills (excuse colourful language). He currently has an abscess on his leg from where she viciously bit him & it got infected; he keeps crying & tonight we took the bandage off I think his foot is numb from it being so tight.
(I promise if I get my hands on that cat, she’ll be going for a long drive).

Yes, that lens is heavy and big but you can’t argue with the results. Don’t forget, no VR on tripod! My fave shot is of the flame.

Sublime macro debut! lol @ long drive for your neighbour’s cat. The flame is sweet, seeing the wick burning in the middle.
I suspect you’re experiencing the key trickiness of macro distances i.e. very small apertures are required to have any meaningful depth of field, which in turn needs high ISO (noise) and longer shutter speeds (blur) but VR is a fantastic feature to have for handheld shots. ‘Envy x2′!!

Those are just incredible, Chloe. Superb. The texture, the clarity, the sharpness of the picture… they just took my breath away!

Wow, so much detail captured here. I can’t pick a favorite. It’s between the tiny flame and the button.

You are a natural with this lens. Great shots. Razor sharp and that is not easy with a macro lens.
Sorry about your cat. He must become quite expensive. But the picture is lovely. That cute little tongue…!

I almost got that lense, but I realized I use my tripod a lot. Still a sweet lense, though.

I love the candle flame and light bulb shots. Depth of field is absolutely spot on. I haven’t used my macro lens in months, but I feel inspired to have a play around with it after seeing these.
