TO RUMINATE ABOUT MY LIFE;

excuse me, i’m new(?)

with 14 comments

Last night I was able to start playing with my D90, my parents, Daniel & I took a drive to a local estate where there were lakes so I could see how my new camera works. It was freezing cold & to make matters worse the four of us have the flu; so we lasted 10 minutes before returning home. I’m still not used to having to manually zoom & stabilise the lens myself, although I’m confident with practise I’ll perfect it.

Today Ebonee (swift, aka my car) had her 15,000km service; I dropped her off with nothing to report to them as a problem & upon picking her back up everything reported back as perfect (as expected).

Daniel & I wandered around the local shops so I could pick up a 2009 handbag diary, UV filters & ingredients to make chocolate chip cookies (from scratch of course). The cookies turned out delicious & our numerous games of table tennis made them disappear pretty quickly. After dinner we headed to Frankston beach to test out my camera at almost sunset. We were sat there for over two & a half hours; time gets away from us when we are talking & “bonding” as I like to call it. Daniel still remains the only person I can tell anything to, openly & honestly without the fear of him judging me. We tossed up ideas of where our travels will take us this year, our plans together & what we think we would like to change in 2009. It’s nice to know after three years, we can still ignite that flame inside each other; I think it’s called love.

I’m happy to report already 2009 has been a huge turn around & I’m going to do everything in my power to keep it moving forward. These are my trial photographs with my Nikon D90 SLR;

  2. Hey Chloe,

    I like the first shot of the Black swans. It looks lovely where you live.

    Where I live there’s not really that many nice people, in england we tend to find reasons to dislike each other and are generally unfriendly to everyone. Even our relatives so I guess there are nice people I just don’t know many. The neighbours that run the shops have all been very helpful over the past year though :D

    I think you mentioned you and the fella were planning to Visit the UK. I would definetly reccommend it. Oz will have me for a year as of July so you should come to the UK and even it out.

    The photography skills are really coming on I like a lot of the panorama shot’s. I’ll upload some of my travel pics tonight so feel free to check back later

  4. Nice pictures, as always. Make sure you get filters for your camera, if for nothing else than to protect the lens, but I’m sure your dad already told you that.

  5. New post up. I’m still trying to sort out the other two that I’ve been touching up, which will both be brilliant. I had an experience a couple of days ago… came home and wrote this in less than ten minutes. I didn’t even write it on paper, I just typed it on here. I hope you like it. It’s a lil vulgar and kinda twisted, but I’ve posted worse that you liked. Let me know what you think Beautiful… Bye

  7. I actually played with a D90 a little at Best Buy yesterday (trying to find a way to spend holiday gift certificates- their photo department is lacking to say the least), and now I understand what all the fuss is about. I knew it was a well-reviewed camera, but now I know why. It fits perfectly into the hand, all of the controls are right where you need them, and the LCD is gorgeous (and huge). Good choice. I am considering moving to Nikon gear because the new career paths I am considering would probably make it very easy for me to dabble in professional commercial work (this is a minimum of three years away) and it’s time for me to start investing in lenses. It’s much easier to jump ship now when I have minimal funds invested than in three years, when I hope to have much nicer glass. A D90 is too rich for my blood (because I can’t get them used), but I am looking at the D80 (the predecessor to the D90) and the D200 (a step above the D80 in everything except the parts that take the picture).

    These are some excellent landscapes. Are you using a circular polarizer to get those beautiful skies, or have you already developed good timing? If you haven’t already, look into a polarizer (it’s a filter). It’s one of the things I wish I’d bought earlier, and easily the most useful filter for digital (since its effects can’t be easily replicated in post processing).

    My favorites here are the second to last (beautiful delicate tones, great composition) and the close shot of the gull (perfectly exposed, you got all of him or her in frame, and the emphasis is on the eye, which is hard to do).

    You are off to a great start- keep shooting!

  10. I love the 3rd and 4th photo from the top! Also, you have to tell me what kind of dog is that!!@#%#@%$@11 Kind of looks like a pitty. I’m buying that dog when I move out, not that dog specifically but that breed. =]

  12. lol, another picture of a fly. It would seem as though I can start a collection :P. The pic of Sylvester is really cute (as is the one of the dog. He seems to be looking at the camera so intently). The photo with the wire was really cool (favourite for this post :)).
    Your ‘playing around’ seems really good to me. The sort of ’rounded’ effect in the 20th (lot of counting :P) is one that I really like, btw.
    And lol, those animals in werribee for the weekend are types that you find in South Africa (only nature reserves now, but they are originally from around here).
