get real;
For four years now I’ve been dabbling in photography. Slowly I’ve been willing to step out of my comfort zone & experiment with different cameras, working my way up to the Nikon range.
I headed off to JB-HIFI with my dad, birthday vouchers & cash. We were able to get the camera & (2) lens kits, bag & SDHC high definition 8G card matched to the same price as another retailer that was selling the camera, one lens & bag. The camera set me back $1,200 which I think is rather suitable for my first SLR.
So..today I bought my first digital SLR (single-lens reflex) camera, the Nikon D90; the inspiration coming from Paige & Penny. It’s currently charging, I’ve installed the software onto my laptop & I’m anxiously looking at the 300 page manual. I’m really keen (& so is my dad) to get out into the world with my ‘real’ camera & just play. I’m grateful for my dads input into helping me find the perfect camera for me, he’s more knowledgable than I ever gave him credit for. Both of my parents have a passion for photography, I’ve looked back on their photo albums when everything was film & manual operations, it’s really inspiring for me & I guess I am more like the two of them than I thought! ♥
Here’s the start of my new year!

Hope you enjoy your Nikon D90! That is a great camera, so jealous.

Hey chloe.
Good to see your back and had a good cruise. 2008 went out with a bang as usual here in good old England. I’m just composing my first post for 2009 and all I can think about is how expensive everything now seems to be. I like your choice in camera – I’ve wanted to up and get myself an SLR for a long time now but have stuck with Fuji range of Bridge cameras currently using the Finepix s9600. I need some inspiration unfortunately the weather is bleak and I only have a cow in my window sill garden to photograph so that shall be my subject.

Well Chloe, I used to dabble in SLR when the word “film” was still cool to use. I had a Canon AE-1 that I loved. I had all the gadgets too. Then my children came along and I stopped doing lots of photos to take care of my kids. Of course, I have lots of pictures of the kids. Times went bye and the digital area came into being so I opted for a Sony. Great little camera which did what I wanted to for a long time. But, now the itch is back and I bought myself a Canon Rebel XSI. Nice SLR camera. I’ve always been a Canon girl, my brother has always loved Nikon. Either way, photography is fun, and you have a great eye for it.

You absolutely picked a great camera and you will really enjoy taking pictures with it. I really recommend that you get a few books on photography that would explain both the camera and photography in general. Since I got Canon I bought a book that explained my 400D but I also got a few other books like “The Moment It Clicks” by Joe McNally and a few on Lightroom. There are so many websites that offer great tutorials and I’ve been to most of them, so just give me a notice if you have any questions about photography. Good luck and have fun!

D90s are fantastic cameras, enough that I was tempted to get one (then I remembered I had no money to do so). This camera will be a great learning experience, and will not limit you for a long time. Trust me, being limited by your equipment is not fun.
I am glad to hear that my work is inspiring. If you ever have questions about how I did something or set something up, feel free to ask. I’d be happy to help.

Thank you for all of the comments again, Chloé!! I looked at Anthony’s blog and I think that all of this photography is just amazing. I plan to ask him questions about photography, too. Yes, I realize that a switch from cameras like that will be daunting, but my cousin has an SLR camera that I work with a lot. I just have to learn more about it.
And thank you for your help with getting my blog link put into my comments! As you see, I am pretty new to blogging. Anyway, I am just having a ball looking through all of your phenonominal work. Seriously, it’s truly amazing to have a talent like yours.
